Introducing For Denver FC
Words of Wisdom
“We need to have women in more powerful positions that are making decisions, so when that 10-year-old girl is looking up and wondering, ‘What can I do and what do I want to be when I get older?’ She has the opportunity to do and be whatever she wants.” — Abby Wambach
With the 2023 Women’s World Cup and soccer front and center on my mind, this reminder from Abby felt just right.
Introducing For Denver FC
It is with so much excitement that I introduce you to For Denver FC (FDFC), a volunteer-based group of investors, entrepreneurs, athletes, and community leaders passionate about women’s soccer, working to bring professional women’s soccer to the Mile High City.
For years as a serial entrepreneur and an avid sports fan, particularly women’s soccer, I always wondered why Denver lacked any professional women’s leagues and teams then the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) started to grow and more recently the ignition of Angel City FC and Bay FC made many of us talk about a pro women’s soccer league in Denver.
In typical fashion, I tweeted my desire to help bring an NWSL team to Denver and Tom Dunmore, an experienced sports executive with an extensive background across professional soccer, motorsports, and cricket hit me up via DM in April and it feels like the rest is a fast-moving train.
I joined the For Denver FC coalition, a volunteer group of entrepreneurs, athletes, and leaders in Colorado to help put Denver on the map as a world-class soccer town. Say hello to For Denver FC, a brand and campaign to kickstart Colorado into high gear to attract investors, leagues, and leaders who want to get involved in this exciting undertaking. Join us in this mission.
We are kicking off this campaign by hosting viewing parties around the Women’s World Cup, beginning Friday, July 21 when the U.S. Women’s National Team takes on Vietnam. The event will take place at Number 38 (3560 Chestnut Pl, Denver, CO 80216) from 6-10pm MT and is free and open to the public. To RSVP please head to fordenverfc.com.
You are invited! You, your friends, your family, the kids, your network of investors, and peers who love startups and sports and women’s soccer. You are all invited and there’s only space for about a thousand of my closest Colorado friends, so head over to our official website and RSVP. Then share our website with everyone you know.
I have made sure that we have a social presence on all the following platforms: Instagram, Twitter, Threads, Facebook, and Linkedin. Feel free to share from any and all those platforms with your networks. It will be constantly updated leading up to July 21.
I really hope I see you there. I can’t wait to cheer on the USWNT team and announce this incredible effort to bring pro women’s soccer to our beautiful city of Denver.
Thanks for reading.
As always — Keep Climbing.
Until next time,
Lizelle
