Word of Wisdom

“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” ~ Billie Jean King

This quote is a whole mood and gives me life.

Welcome, welcome!

Lizelle here, at your service!

I want to welcome all my readers to Moonshots with Lizelle for a periodic read on entrepreneurship, technology, philosophy, mindfulness, wellness, marketing, time, and sprinkles of other things that are wrestling for my attention.

Most of all I hope to bring you insights that are valuable, things that help you solve problems from new perspectives and ideas and frameworks that improve your work and life even if just a little bit.

I really enjoy learning in the open, I’ve done so my whole life, and this newsletter will have hints of experiences, learnings, trials and errors, ideas, and frameworks and mostly hopes to be a conversation starter that inspires you to tell me what you think. Feel free to leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter at @heylizelle.

My newsletter description; A ledger of a rebellious entrepreneur, is somewhat funny to me because I say this about myself as a joke because when I first launched Women Who Startup, a learning community for entrepreneurs, years ago, a women’s organization in Denver dubbed me as rebellious and not what entrepreneurship is all about. When I first heard that I laughed out loud because I dare you to show me a true entrepreneur that is not a rebel … I won’t hold my breath. Little did they know that they said that in a room filled with some of my peers and friends. More on that for another day, another story.

This newsletter will change over time. I’ll lose what is bad and double down on what is good so please give me feedback. This is how I build pretty much anything; ship fast and learn from feedback.

I’m working on Startup Rules Of Engagement

Coming soon.

I got the conversation started on Twitter and received some great feedback so far. You are welcome to chime in.

I’m working on a piece called Startup rules of engagement. And I’d love to hear from fellow founders and startup team members. What do you think are the most important traits, tactics, frameworks and mindsets that’s required for startup endurance and ultimately success?

Time Since Launch video

On Friday I unboxed the coolest birthday gift ever. Watch me pull the pin on the countdown to the rest of my life. It’s pretty entertaining and I had Leo (our puppy) helping with the whole situation so this is also good for your mental health.

What’s Next for me?

I’m getting this question a lot! Which is understandable. I recently announced that I stepped down as CMO of Undock at the end of 2021. Now I’m actively looking for what’s next. So, what am I considering? Here are some ideas of where my head is at — and could change on a dime if I meet the right people to build something amazing with.

Entrepreneur in Residence/ Founder in Residence/ Operator in Residence

I’m strongly considering an EIR opportunity where I can add value while learning more and figuring out what I might want to build next.

Things I’m excited to explore are web3 and the venture funding side of things.

Venture Associate/ Apprentice/ Partner

I’ve been itching for years to get into the venture and funding side of the business and I would love to be taken under someone's wing to learn from a pro. I’ve been “investing” in fellow founders for a decade, putting women in positions of opportunity to get them into accelerators, in front of VCs or Angels, and just betting on them by supporting them. I believe building Women Who Startup was always meant to take me to the point of raising a fund and investing in entrepreneurs but there’s a lot of the venture side of things I want to learn in an environment that knows their shit.

Enterprise Tech

Sure, there’s a moment here and there where I’m super enticed to go build within a framework with tons of resources and tons of support. I’ve literally only ever built from nothing — going on 18 years. To me, it always boils down to the environment, the people, and only then what we’re building. I’m considering many avenues from marketing and growth to product and operations.

Startup x 7?

I’m taking a lot of meetings with founders who want me to join them. I’m open to the idea and I’m having lots of amazing conversations. I’m being presented with several opportunities and also thinking about operator versus advisor. I love to build but it might be a fraction too soon to dive in again — as always for me, boils down to the people and opportunity. Nothing is off the table, you just never know and I’m open to all possibilities.

If any of the above makes you think of ideas, introductions, feedback, you want to talk or meet, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can reply to me, leave a comment or reach out here.

New Music

There’s one universal language I know we all speak and it’s music.

I learned about this artist last week from Elle Morrill’s newsletter.

Feast your ears on Monica Martin’s, Go Easy Kid.

I commit myself to sabotage
See, I can get what I want, then I'll make it hard to hold on
Convince myself that I'm without a god
A spiritual fraud who got lost in her own sad song

…

In twenty years, kid, you're gonna look back
And wish you grabbed it all by the throat
And said, "Fuck it, it's only rock and roll"

Sweet musical magic.

Thanks for reading.

As always — Keep Climbing.

Until next time,

Lizelle
